Michael cited a spine problem and weak legs have slowed him, and his career, down in the recent years.
“I’m now not an actor, I’m a writer,” he told the outlet. “Which is lovely, because as an actor you have to get up at half past 6 in the morning and go to the studio. As a writer, you start writing without leaving the bed!”
Michael didn’t lock the door for a return to acting though, but admits “there haven’t been any offers honestly for two years, because nobody’s been making any movies I wanna do.”
“There’s not exactly scripts pouring out with a leading man that’s 88, you know?”
Michael will star with Aubrey Plaza in Best Sellers, which was made in 2018, which centers on the new head of a publishing house, who seeks out a reclusive, cantankerous, booze-addled author, for a book he promised years ago.
In reality, Michael has written quite a few books, including three memoirs, in 1992, 2010, and 2018.
