'Sex & the City' Author Defends Kim Cattrall, Muses Why She Might Have Exited

Sex and the City author Candace Bushnell is defending Kim Cattrall and her decision to exit the series and not return for the show’s HBO Max reboot.

Some backstory about the drama that has gone on for years behind-the-scenes: In 2017, Kim revealed that she was never friends with her co-stars and the relationships on set felt “toxic.” She also revealed she wouldn’t do a third film with them. Then, months later in early 2018, Kim‘s brother suddenly passed away and Sarah Jessica wrote a comment on Kim‘s Instagram post, expressing her condolences and seemingly, mending their broken relationship. Later on, Kim suddenly lashed out at SJP for “exploiting” her family’s tragedy. Kim was rumored to be the reason why a third Sex and the City movie never came to fruition. She’s not participating in the HBO Max reboot And Just Like That… either.

“I absolutely love Kim,” Candace said to the New York Post. “But it seems she wants to do other things, and she doesn’t feel like doing the show. Maybe she doesn’t want to be that character anymore. Maybe she doesn’t want to put the Spanx on!”
