'Rust' Crew Walked Off Set in Protest Hours Before Fatal Shooting & There Were Previous Gun Misfires (Report)

There is new information surfacing surrounding Alec Baldwin‘s movie Rust and the deadly shooting on set in New Mexico.

A half-dozen camera crew workers walked off the set to protest working conditions hours before the deadly incident, according to the LA Times.

Camera operators and assistants were “frustrated by the conditions surrounding the low-budget film,” including complaints of long hours and pay, according to sources familiar with the situation.

Shooting for the movie began on October 6, and after filming began, crews were told they would be required to make the 50-mile drive from Albuquerque each day, rather than stay overnight nearby Santa Fe.

Halyna Hutchins, the cinematographer killed by the prop gun, had been advocating for safer conditions for her team, according to a crew member.

“Corners were being cut — and they brought in nonunion people so they could continue shooting,” a source told the news outlet.

There were also two misfires of the prop gun on Saturday (October 16) and one the previous week, the person said, adding “there was a serious lack of safety meetings on this set.”

The fatal shooting happened about six hours after the union camera crew left the scene.

Alec was reportedly rehearsing a scene outside the church of the Bonzana Creek Ranch set, involving a gun fight that began in the church.

No charges have been filed. The Sheriff’s Office said that “witnesses continue to be interviewed by detectives.”
