'Rust' Director Joel Souza Released from Hospital After Being Injured in On-Set Accident

Joel Souza, the writer and director of the movie Rust, has been released from the hospital after suffering injuries in the tragic accident on set.

A prop gun being used by Alec Baldwin was discharged and took the life of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. It also injured Joel.

Halyna was taken by helicopter to the University of New Mexico Hospital, where she was pronounced dead by medical personnel. The authorities say that Joel “was transported by ambulance to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical center,” where he received treatment for his injuries.

Frances Fisher, who is part of the cast of Rust and has paid tribute to Halyna on social media, revealed the news about Joel‘s condition.

In response to a tweet from Patricia Arquette, who sent prayers to Joel, Frances revealed that he’s out of the hospital.

“Director Joel Souza told me he’s out of hospital,” she said.

Joel‘s reps confirmed to Deadline that he is indeed out of the hospital.
