Greta Gerwig is directing the movie from a script that she co-wrote with husband Noah Baumbach. It’s expected to begin production “at the top of 2022.”
Not much is known yet about the plot of the movie, but Deadline reports that “one can expect that this won’t be your typical take on the doll’s story.”
Amy Schumer was originally attached to star in a live-action Barbie movie and then Anne Hathaway seemed to be the frontunner. Then, Margot was later attached to the project with a new take written by Greta and Noah.
Deadline reports that Ryan‘s busy schedule led to him initially passing “on playing the part, but insiders add that as pre-production dragged out and the studio remained persistent with him being their only choice, an opening in his schedule appeared, allowing him to sign on to the project.”
Check out the details that Margot revealed about the movie last year.
