'Maid' Star Margaret Qualley Describes What It Was Like Filming Those Disgusting Cleaning Scenes

Margaret Qualley is sharing an inside look into what it was like working on her new series, Maid!

In the new Netflix show, the 26-year-old actress plays Alex, a bright young woman who ends up homeless after getting out of an abusive relationship and takes on a job as a maid.

Margaret spoke with E! News on Friday (October 22) and described what it was like filming some of the brutal cleaning scenes featured in the show, including one where her character Alex cleans a squatter’s den.

The Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood star revealed that thankfully all the grime depicted on the show was fake!

“It’s incredible,” she said. “The concoctions that they would use to make, because, like, it’s all fake. I’m doing the princess version of all this. It’s like ketchup and hot sauce and A-1 or whatever that’s like, plastered onto an oven in order to make it look like [dirt]. Everything is like clean dirt.”

Margaret went on to say the set design was “pretty breathtaking” and added that while she wasn’t too bothered by the believable-looking mess, director Nzingha Stewart was not a fan.

“The director of episodes three and four was really squeamish,” Margaret said, “and had a challenging time…dealing with the set and the cockroaches. I don’t think she made it in the room for the cockroach scene.”
