Anne Heche Says She Was Blacklisted Because of Her Ellen DeGeneres Romance

Anne Heche thinks that her relationship with Ellen DeGeneres got her “cancelled.”

The 52-year-old actress reflected in an interview with Page Six.

During the interview, she opened up about her past relationship with the talk show host from 1997 to 2000, and feeling like “patient zero in cancel culture.”

“This wasn’t a long-term love affair. This was a moment in my life when I was given the glory of being able to stand up for what I believe in and have since I was a kid,” she said.

She also recalled inviting Ellen as her date to 1997′s Volcano premiere, saying it was “about living in loving-kindness.”

“I didn’t do a studio picture for 10 years. I was fired from a $10 million picture deal and did not see the light of day in a studio picture,” she said.

One movie she was supposed to do was Six Days, Seven Nights opposite Harrison Ford, but she said that the studio inferred she wouldn’t still have the part after the backlash for coming out.

She said Harrison gave her support over the phone: “He said, ‘Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn who you’re sleeping with. We have a romantic comedy to make. Let’s make it the best one that’s ever happened,’” she said.

“That is why Harrison Ford is my hero. To stand behind me at such a time when the force of what I was standing up for could have been toppled,” she continued.

“Those repercussions that happened, are to me what has created a part of the change. I’m a part of it. It is a badge of honor,” she explained.

She will next appear in 13 Minutes, a disaster movie with director Lindsay Gossling, who she likes because “she tackles social issues in a disaster movie, very few people have the balls to do.”

Earlier in the year, she also threw some shade at that infamous relationship.
