The 54-year-old CNN host made an appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers on Monday night (October 25).

During the appearance, the news anchor shared a story about his late mother, Gloria Vanderbilt, and revealed that he made an Instagram account so she could display her art.

He later agreed to handle her DMs as the account grew more popular, but went undercover as sales assistant “Monica” as requests came in to buy the art.

“She was like, ‘Okay, why don’t we invent a lady of a certain age named Monica and who’s a longtime trusted assistant and you be Monica and you answer all the DMs on Instagram to buy my artwork.’ And that’s what I did for three years,” he said.

“Literally, I’d be in Baghdad, you know, in between things I’d be like, ‘Would you like a laminated white frame?’ – as Monica,” he laughingly recalled.

“People would be like, ‘What’s it like working for Ms. Vanderbilt?’ I was like, ‘Oh, she’s so lovely.’”

He also got emotional recently recalling their final moments together.
