“It was great,” Ed told Armchair Expert podcast hosts Dax Shepard and Monica Padman when talking about filming the cameo.

However, his excitement went away after fans mocked his surprise appearance on the show.

“I feel like people’s reaction to it sort of muddied my joy to it,” Ed admitted.

As fans remember, Ed made a small cameo as a Lannister soldier in the first episode of season seven. He and good friend Maisie Williams, who played Arya Stark, shared a scene around a campfire together.

Ed went on to say that he has always been a big fan of the show and was asked to make a cameo as a surprise to Maisie.

According to Ed, Maisie‘s character was supposed to be killed off that season, but the surprise was accidentally ruined by Sophie Turner, who mentioned his involvement at a convention to a shocked Maisie.

“She’s always been awesome,” Ed said of Maisie. “I don’t think they had written the ending yet. It was meant to be her last season but it wasn’t. And as a surprise for her, [they got] me on. So, she was meant to turn up on set. and I was by the fire.”
