Nicole Kidman Was Completely 'Frightened' To Play Lucille Ball in 'Being The Ricardos'

Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem are front and center on the newest poster for Being The Ricardos.

The upcoming movie will center on Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, revealing glimpse of the couple’s complex romantic and professional relationship.

In a recent panel discussion about the movie, both Nicole and Javier opened up about their fears of playing the iconic stars.

“I had massive trepidation about a month prior, and Aaron [Sorkin] had to get on the phone and send me emails saying, ‘You’ve got this,’” Nicole shared during the recent Q&A, via Variety. “It was frightening but incredibly exciting.”

She added that playing Lucille in the film gave her a deeper chance to get to actually know her, and not Lucy Ricardo.

“I fell in love with her as I was reading the script,” she says. “I realized what she was doing [was] trailblazing for women.”

As for Javier, he too didn’t know much about Desi other than his showmanship. But the film changed that.

“I was obsessed with him and his skills as a comedian, as a person, as a producer and a musician at that time while being a foreigner in this country….the energy had to be there, and I had fun embodying that.”

Being the Ricardos is due out in theaters on December 10 and will be available to stream on Prime Video on December 21.
