'General Hospital' Star Steve Burton Confirms Exit From Soap Over COVID-19 Vaccine Mandate

Steve Burton is out at General Hospital for good.

The 51-year-old actor, who portrayed Jason Morgan Quartermaine first from 1991-2012, and then again starting in 2017, has left the series.

A vaccine mandate went into effect on November 1 and like his co-star Ingo Rademacher, Steve has chosen not to take it and has since left the show.

Steve reportedly taped his last episode on October 27.

“I know there’s been a lot of rumors and speculation about me and General Hospital, and I wanted you to hear it from me personally. Unfortunately, General Hospital has let me go, because of the vaccine mandate,” he shared in a video on his Instagram. “I did apply for my medical and religious exemptions, and both of those were denied… which, you know, hurts.”

He added, “But this is also about personal freedom to me. I don’t think anybody should lose their livelihood over this.”

“I’ll always be grateful for my time on General Hospital. I love it there, I grew up there,” Steve continued. “I believe that when one door closes, multiple doors open… so I am excited to see what the future brings. And maybe one day, if these mandates are lifted, I can return and can finish my career as Jason Morgan.”

Steve did admit earlier this summer that he had tested positive for COVID-19, but felt “fine” and experienced “no symptoms.”

Ingo‘s exit was also marked by a series of transphobic tweets.
