Blink-182's Mark Hoppus Reveals He Announced His Cancer Diagnosis By Accident

Mark Hoppus did not mean to publicly announce his cancer diagnosis earlier this year.

Speaking with GQ magazine, the blink-182 bassist shared that he originally mean to share a photo of himself getting chemotherapy to his “Close Friends” on Instagram, but accidentally published it publicly to his one million followers.

The musician realized his mistake once his manager asked he had shared the photo intentionally. He quickly began getting calls from concerned friends and family who he hadn’t shared the news with yet, as well as radio stations.

“Throughout the day as I’m getting chemotherapy and more bags of chemicals are being dripped into my body, other people are reaching out and they’re like, ‘Dude, what’s going on?’” he told the outlet.

“Maybe part of me subconsciously posted it to my main, but I definitely didn’t do it on purpose,” he continued. “But I don’t know. It kind of felt like a Band-Aid had been ripped off and I was able to be honest with people.”

He made an official statement about his diagnosis later that day and later revealed that he was battling stage 4 diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.

Mark announced back in September that he was officially cancer free and you can read his statement here.
