Taylor Swift Dropped as Grammy Nominee for Olivia Rodrigo's 'Sour' Interpolation

The Recording Academy is making some changes to Taylor Swift‘s nominations at the 2022 Grammys.

The 31-year-old folklore singer had previously been listed as a nominee for Olivia‘s album, Sour. The latter artist’s song “deja vu” included an interpolation of Taylor‘s track “Cruel Summer,” which she wrote with frequent collaborator Jack Antonoff and St. Vincent, aka Annie Clark.

According to Billboard, the Recording Academy updated their site to indicate that Taylor, Jack and St. Vincent would no longer be nominated for Sour.

The Academy said in a statement: “During the submission process, the Academy received credits from the label for the track ‘deju vu.’ Last week, we received the correct credits from the label that recognize Annie Clark, Jack Antonoff and Taylor Swift as songwriters of an interpolation on the track, ‘deja vu.’ In keeping with current Grammy guidelines, as songwriters of an interpolated track, Clark, Antonoff and Swift are not nominees in the album of the year category for Sour. Antonoff and Swift are nominated in the category for Swift’s album, evermore.”

The move suggests that the Academy has made a distinction between songwriters who actively work on creating a new song versus those whose old work was interpolated.

This is the first year that the Recording Academy is keeping a page for updates and corrections to its nominations, in an effort to “ensure transparency and accessibility to the most up-to-date and accurate information.”

Olivia has been for seven Grammys at this year’s awards and you can see her reaction to the news here!
