Ben Affleck Says He & Jennifer Garner Did Everything They Could To Make Things Work in Their Marriage Before Split

Ben Affleck is opening up about the end of his marriage to Jennifer Garner, admitting that if the two were still married, he would still be drinking.

During an appearance on the Howard Stern Show this week, the 48-year-old Tender Bar star got candid about his and Jennifer‘s marriage.

“I’d probably still be drinking,” Ben admitted, if they were still wed. “It’s part of why I started drinking … because I was trapped.”

He added that he was unhappy in his marriage to Jennifer: “I was like ‘I can’t leave ’cause of my kids, but I’m not happy, what do I do?’ What I did was drink a bottle of scotch and fall asleep on the couch, which turned out not to be the solution.”

Ben also shared that he and Jennifer did everything they could to stay together and make things work.

“The truth was, we took our time, we made the decision … We grew apart,” he says. “We had a marriage that didn’t work, this happens, with somebody that I love and respect, but to whom I shouldn’t be married any longer. Ultimately, we tried. We tried, we tried because we had kids. Both of us felt like we don’t want this to be the model that our kids see of marriage.”

Ben and Jennifer, who got married in 2005, share three children together: Violet, 16, Seraphina, 12, and Samuel, 9. They split in 2015.

He is currently seeing Jennifer Lopez.
