Alec Baldwin Denies Requesting a Larger Gun on the Set of 'Rust'

Alec Baldwin is hitting back at a recent claim.

On Thursday (December 16), Newsweek published an article alleging that the 63-year-old actor had “‘requested a bigger gun’ before the incident that left cinematographer Halyna Hutchins dead and director Joel Souza injured on the set of the movie Rust in October, police said.”

Alec took to Twitter the same day to respond to the allegations.

“This, in fact is a lie. The choices regarding any props by me for the film RUST were made weeks before production began,” he wrote on the official Hilaria and Alec Baldwin Foundation Twitter account.

“To suggest that any changes were made ‘before fatal shooting’ is false,” he added.

It was reported on Thursday that a search warrant had been issued for Alec‘s phone as part of the ongoing investigation into the death of Halyna Hutchins. According to the docs, he and the armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed emailed back and forth about what kind of gun would be used in the scene.

He had previously told investigators that they would need to get a warrant to seize his device, the affidavit adds.

The actor gave his first interview about the fatal shooting earlier this month, telling George Stephanopoulos that he “didn’t pull the trigger.”
