If you didn’t know, the “Five-Timers Club” is a group of stars that have had the honor of hosting SNL at least five times.

Before the episode aired, SNL announced some very big changes they were making for the episode due to the Omicron COVID-19 variant surging throughout New York City.

Previously-pre-recorded, Tom Hanks kicked off the new episode of SNL, coming out on stage to induct Paul into the “Five-Timers Club.”

Tom came out in a royal blue smoking jacket with an oversized “5” patch on it while being joined on stage by fellow “Five-Timers Club” member Tina Fey and Paul.

“As you know I started the Five-Timers Club,” Tom said as he began to honor Paul. “Like you started COVID,” Tina quipped back.

SNL‘s longest-tenured player Kenan Thompson then came out to present Paul with his own “Five-Timers” jacket.

“Congratulations on hosting the show four and a half times,” Kenan joked as he helped put the jacket on Paul.

Steve Martin, another member of the “Five-Timers Club,” also made an appearance via Zoom alongside Only Murders in the Building co-star Martin Short to help honor Paul.
