“Meet the newest member of the Heard family, Barnaby Joyce! 🐶” Amber wrote alongside a pic of her holding the dog.
The name is a reference to her dog smuggling case from 2015, when she and her then-husband Johnny Depp brought their two dogs to Australia with them during a vacation, breaking the country’s rules about animal importation.
Barnaby Joyce, who is currently the Australian Deputy Prime Minister, was the Minister of Agriculture at the time. He was quoted saying the couple should “bugger off back to the United States.”
Johnny subsequently referred to him as a “sweaty, big-gutted man from Australia.” He and Amber later issued an apology and the actress plead guilty to providing a false passenger card for her dogs.
When asked about Amber‘s post, Barnaby Joyce told The Australian, “I get a real sense of accomplishment that I’m still in her head long after I’ve forgotten about them.”
He also quipped, “Obviously, I now rate above Johnny Depp.”
Earlier this year, it was revealed that Amber was under investigation for the 2015 dog smuggling case. Find out more…
