Janet Jackson Addresses Super Bowl Scandal & Michael Jackson Allegations in New Documentary Trailer

Janet Jackson is speaking out.

A trailer for the musician’s new documentary JANET dropped on Monday (January 3), giving fans a first look at some of the subject matter that will be covered in the movie.

“You’ve been very private about your personal life up until now. Why did you want to do this documentary?” Janet is asked at the start of the video before responding, “It’s just something that needs to be done.”

Paula Abdul, Missy Elliott, Mariah Carey and more stars make appearances in the clip as well, sharing their thoughts on Janet‘s incredible career.

“She’s a legend” Ciara says, before Janelle Monáe calls her “a lot of the image that is out today.”

The “Control” performer also describes the emotional toll her rise to fame took on her, calling it “a side that no one’s ever seen.”

The trailer also includes Janet addressing the allegations surrounding her brother Michael Jackson.

“There’s a great deal of scrutiny that comes with having that last name,” she says. “Guilty by association. I guess that’s what they call it, right?”

“They build you up and then once you get there, they’re so quick to tear you down,” she continues as photos from her 2004 Super Bowl halftime performance with Justin Timberlake appear, one of which includes a newspaper headline that reads, “Jackson Banned From Grammys after Super Bowl Stunt.”

The first part of JANET will premiere Jan. 28 at 8 p.m. on Lifetime and A&E. Check out the full trailer down below!

Janet was recently the subject of another documentary by The New York Times, which she reportedly did not want to be associated with.
