Jon Stewart Clarifies Comments He Made About 'Harry Potter': ‘I Do Not Think J.K. Rowling Is Anti-Semitic’

Jon Stewart is clarifying comments he made about J.K. Rowling.
On a recent episode of his podcast, the Daily Show alum compared the depiction of the Goblins, who run the banks in the wizarding world, to anti-Semitic illustrations featured in the 1903 book “The Protocols of the Elders of Zion,” which is widely considered to be one of the biggest anti-Jewish texts of all time.
Jon took to social media on Wednesday (January 5) to set the record straight about his remarks.

“I do not think J.K. Rowling is anti-Semitic. I did not accuse her of being anti-Semitic,” he said in a video posted to Twitter. “I do not think the Harry Potter movies are anti-Semitic. I really love the Harry Potter movies, probably too much for a gentleman of my considerable age.”
“I cannot stress this enough. I am not accusing J.K. Rowling of being anti-Semitic,” he continued. “She need not answer to any of it. I don’t want the Harry Potter movies censored in any way. It was a lighthearted conversation. Get a fucking grip.”
Jon went on to say the discussion was meant to explore “how some tropes are so embedded in society that they’re basically invisible, even in a considered process like moviemaking.”
JK Rowling has previously been the subject of controversy, facing backlash for several anti-transgender comments she has made in the past.
