Model Brooks Nader Claims She Was Stalked Using an Apple AirTag: 'Scariest Experience'

Brooks Nader is recounting a scary experience she had.

In a video posted to her Instagram Stories on Thursday (January 6), the 25-year-old model alleged that a stranger’s Apple AirTag – which is designed to help useres find lost items like their keys – was used to track her location after being slipped into her bag during a night out in New York City.

Brooks claimed that she realized what had happened when she was walking home and got a notification that someone was tracking her.

“I was at a bar in Tribeca,” she shared. “I was at the bar and waiting on someone alone and had my coat on the chair behind me. It was crowded. Lots of people.”

“Then I went to meet some girlfriends at a bar nearby. I didn’t get any notifications. Then I went to the next spot, no notifications. Then, stupidly, I was walking home alone because I live in the neighborhood. Around 11:30 p.m., I was already on my walk home when I got the notifications that said someone is tracking you and has been for a while,” she continued. “So I freaked out. And then, of course, my phone died.”

According to Good Morning America, she received the following notifications: “unknown accessory detected,” “this item has been moving with you for awhile” and “the owner can see its location.”

“So I’m kind of just trying to raise awareness and tell all my ladies out there to watch your belongings, look out for the notification,” she explained. “The only silver lining is that I actually got notified that someone was tracking me.”

“It was the scariest moment ever. I just want people to be aware that this exists,” she added.

Apple released AirTags in 2021 and on the company’s website, they say they have implemented a number of features “designed to discourage unwanted tracking,” including a Tracker Detect app for Android users and a notification system for iOS products.

It was recently revealed which websites were the most visited in 2021. Find out where Apple falls on the list
