The star died of complications related to Parkinson’s disease on the birthday of his friend and former castmate Bob Denver, according to his PR. The two also starred in Surviving Gilligan’s Island together.

Dwayne began his acting career with roles in Boy With the Green Hair and The Grapes of Wrath, starring in The Bob Cummings Show as a teen.

In 1959, he took on the lead role in The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis, which ran for 148 episodes. It made history as the first TV series to feature teens as its primary characters, and made him a cultural icon of the Baby Boomer era.

He’d later star in How to Stuff a Wild Bikini, Ski Party and Cat Ballou, and also performed on stage.

Our thoughts are with Dwayne Hickman‘s loved ones at this difficult time.

We have sadly lost several stars already in 2022.
