'Spider-Man: No Way Home' Is Not Eligible for the BAFTA Awards This Year - Find Out Why

While many have speculated that Spider-Man: No Way Home will be one of the first Marvel movies to make waves during awards season, there’s one awards show it won’t qualify for.

On Monday (January 10), BAFTA revealed that the movie did not meet the criteria for its 2022 awards and would not be eligible for entry.

According to THR, the issue stems with BAFTA View, a new streaming portal that allows voting members to view the films.

Spider-Man: No Way Home was expected to be available starting Dec. 30, which would have given voters four days to watch before the Jan. 3 round one voting deadline.

Sadly, the movie wasn’t uploaded in time, with BAFTA explaining that Sony had cited “potential piracy issues as the film has not yet been released in some territories.” It still is not available on the platform.

“As outlined in our rulebook, all films must be made available to voting members on BAFTA View prior to round one voting closing to ensure fairness and parity for all titles and the film was not made available by the distributor,” BAFTA View states on its website.

The BAFTA long lists are set to be announced on Wednesday, Jan. 12.
