Diane Kruger Explains Why Quentin Tarantino Originally Didn't Want to Cast Her in 'Inglourious Basterds'

Diane Kruger is opening up about her work in the movie Inglourious Basterds and how she almost didn’t get the chance to even audition.

The 45-year-old actress played Bridget von Hammersmark in the hit 2009 movie, which was nominated for eight Oscars. Diane was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the SAG Awards and she won the Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture award alongside her co-stars.

Diane said in an interview for the Reign with Josh Smith podcast that director Quentin Tarantino didn’t want to cast her at first.

“He auditioned everyone. He didn’t want to audition me because he saw a movie that I was in he didn’t like. So he didn’t believe in me from the get-go,” she said. “Literally, the only reason he auditioned me is because there was no one left to audition.”

Diane continued, “I had to pay for my own flight from New York to go to Germany because he wouldn’t, even though, obviously, he’s American, but he wouldn’t see me in the US. So I had to jump through all these hoops that definitely put my nose out of joint, but I was like, ‘You know what? F–k him! I’m just gonna do that and prove to him that I can do it.’ And thankfully it all worked out.”

Diane added, “I think for him, too, that must’ve been a lesson. Sometimes you are the one that puts — and I’m sure I’m guilty of that too — you put people in boxes. You think they’re gonna be one way and then they’re not at all.”

Back in 2018, Diane spoke out in support of Quentin when some allegations were made about his behavior on the set of the film.
