Bono Says He's Embarrassed By Most Of U2's Songs

Bono is opening up about why he doesn’t listen to any U2 songs, revealing that he’s a bit embarrassed by them.

During his new interview on THR’s Awards Chatter podcast, the 61-year-old U2 frontman explained his reasoning.

“I’ve been in the car when one of our songs has come on the radio and I’ve been the color of, as we say in Dublin, scarlet,” he admitted. “I’m just so embarrassed.”

Bono added that most of U2 songs actually make him cringe, but there is one he can listen to.

“The one that I can listen to the most is ‘Miss Sarajevo’ with Luciano Pavarotti,” he says, and adds he’s “probably proudest” of is “Vertigo.”

Bono went on, explaining that even the band’s name isn’t something he’s fond of either.

“I didn’t realize that The Beatles was a bad pun, either,” he said. “In our head, it was like the spy plane, U-boat. It was futuristic…It turned out to imply this kind of acquiescence — no, I don’t like that name. I still don’t really like the name.”

“I do think U2 pushes out the boat on embarrassment quite a lot, and maybe that’s the place to be as an artist — you know, right at the edge of your level of embarrassment,” he concluded.

Bono is featured in Sing 2. Find out who he plays here…
