Cate Blanchett Addresses Her Decision to Turn Down Lucille Ball Role in 'Being the Ricardos'

Cate Blanchett is getting candid about her career.
In a new interview with Variety, the 52-year-old actress discussed her decision to exit Being the Ricardos.
She was originally cast as Lucille Ball, a role that ultimately went to Nicole Kidman.

“It became the movie it needed to be,” she said. “Those things happen in the right way, at the right time. In the best possible way, you don’t always envisage the same thing; and then it goes on to become a different entity. When Francis [Ford Coppola] calls, you just have to say yes. Because you’re on the epic, life-changing adventure ride. You’re on that roller coaster. I’m ready for that.”
The movie Cate‘s referring to is Francis Ford Coppola‘s upcoming film Megalopolis, which is reportedly going to start filming at the end of this year. The director was also eyeing Oscar Isaac for his film, who had been considered for a role in Being the Ricardos as well.
Nicole opened up about how she felt about replacing Cate in an interview last month.
