Spotify to Remove Neil Young's Music After His Joe Rogan Ultimatum

Neil Young‘s music will no longer be available for streaming on Spotify.

Earlier this week, the 76-year-old musician threatened to pull his music from the streaming service, saying that they need to chose between keep him or Joe Rogan, who has been spreading misinformation about COVID-19 and the vaccine on his podcast.

In a second statement shared on Wednesday (January 26), Neil called Spotify “the home of life threatening Covid misinformation,” adding, “Lies being sold for money.

After Neil‘s second statement was released, Spotify announced that they were in the process of removing his music.

“We want all the world’s music and audio content to be available to Spotify users. With that comes great responsibility in balancing both safety for listeners and freedom for creators. We have detailed content policies in place and we’ve removed over 20,000 podcast episodes related to Covid since the start of the pandemic,” Spotify said in their statement, via The New York Times.

The service added, “We regret Neil’s decision to remove his music from Spotify, but hope to welcome him back soon.”

Also in his statement, Neil thanked everyone who has supported his decision to remove his music from Spotify before sharing his wishes that other musicians follow in his footsteps.

“I sincerely hope that other artists and record companies will move off the Spotify platform and stop supporting Spotify’s deadly misinformation about COVID,” Neil concluded. “In the name of Truth.”
