Valerie Bertinelli Believes That Someday She'll 'Spend a Lifetime' with Ex Eddie Van Halen

Valerie Bertinelli is remembering her late ex-husband Eddie Van Halen.

In her new memoir Enough Already: Learning to Love the Way I am Today, the Food Network Star reflected on her relationship with the performer, who died in 2020 at the age of 65.

“Some of the last words I said to him [are], you know, ‘Maybe next time. Maybe we’ll get it right next time,’” she said in an interview with Yahoo Entertainment’s “Under the Covers” celebrity book series. “And I really do believe that this is not the first time nor will it be the last time that I spend a lifetime with him.”

In her book, she described feeling Eddie‘s presence after his passing.

“I was drifting in that half-asleep, half-awake place when I sensed a presence in the room,” she wrote. “I opened my eyes and there, through the darkness, was Ed. Looking at me. With that Cheshire cat grin of his. Like you asked for it. Here I am. ‘What’s going on?’ I asked. ‘Are you really here?’”

While she added it would have been “so much easier to tell myself that I was making this up,” she believes that “I saw him clearly. I heard him, too. He looked at me, and said, ‘Oh,’ in the cute, empathetic manner that was his way of reacting to sensitive moments. Then I felt pressure in the middle of my forehead, as if he were pressing on it with his finger.”

The pair married in 1981 before separating in 2001 and getting divorced in 2007. They share one son, Wolfgang, who was also at Eddie‘s bedside at the time of his death.
