Zooey Deschanel Confirms This Popular Rumor About 'New Girl'

Zooey Deschanel is opening up about one behind the scenes secret from New Girl.

During an episode of the Welcome to Our Show podcast this week, the 42-year-old actress spoke to her former co-stars – Lamorne Morris and Hannah Simone – about the popular rumor that she and Jake Johnson had “too much chemistry”.

During the episode, Lamorne, who played Winston Bishop in the show, inquired about that rumor, which has been circulating the internet for years.

“Is it true that there was so much chemistry between you and Jake in the beginning that you guys couldn’t be in the same shot together?” he asked.

Zooey than confirmed that the writers didn’t want them too close prematurely.

“I remember them saying that,” she shared, adding, “They were like, ‘Listen, you guys have such great chemistry. This is a series, we have to play this out over time, and we don’t want to put you guys in the same storylines together.’ ”

Zooey then recalled saying, “‘Isn’t that a good thing?’ I think we all had good chemistry together from the get-go, in different ways. They did say they wanted to play out that storyline, that our chemistry was really good.”

New Girl ended with Zooey and Jake‘s characters, Jessica Day and Nick Miller, getting married.
