On her new album, INVU: “The theme of this album is love. There are many different faces of love. Love means differently depending on the person and I wanted everyone to find a track in the album that relates to their current situation. Love is always with us and I wanted to express it in an unpredictable/unexpected way that’s different from other love songs. In other words, I wanted to create an album that makes listeners think about love again.”

On being part of super-group, Girls On Top (GOT the beat): “Overall, it was such a fun experience. When we were all together in the practice room, I thought ‘What an interesting combination of members!’. It was an image I could never have predicted. I was truly in awe at that moment and thought ‘BoA and aespa together in the same room in front of me? They are dancing with me? Seulgi and Wendy are here as well?’ Everything felt a little surreal. Also, because we are all ‘busy girls’ with different schedules, everything came together pretty quickly and didn’t have a lot of time together. In the short amount of time that we had, I wanted to get close to each member and approached them first to start a conversation. I thought it might be hard for aespa to approach us first as it hasn’t been that long since they made their debut. To make them feel comfortable, I initiated the conversation and was playful around them. I sincerely wanted to get close! (laughs) Also, BoA kept calling me the leader of the group and would always say ‘There is no special reason. You are just our leader’ so I thought ‘alright then’ and tried to make a comfortable and friendly atmosphere.”

On being ranked No. 1 in 10-year cumulative album sales among female solo artists: “This might sound obvious, but I think this was all possible thanks to everyone around me. I can never make an album alone. It’s possible because individuals with different strengths and expertise came together and worked hard which created an amazing group synergy. This album was no exception and went through the same process of everyone exchanging ideas, convincing others and being convinced by others. I never force anything or try to cover my colors. And I like to compromise and communicate with others. I enjoy convincing others but at the same time love being convinced by others as well. I have the best staff and team that I could ask for which made all this possible. And of course, there are my fans. Fans who listen to my songs and wait for new music patiently. They are my main source of motivation and what drives me to work harder. I am who I am today because of them so I’d like to take this opportunity to say thank you. I hope to continue this special, one-of-a- kind relationship where we understand each other and can convince each other through music.”
