'Fingers Crossed' Singer Lauren Spencer-Smith Explains How Her Life Has Changed Since 'American Idol' - Listen Now!

Lauren Spencer-Smith has become a breakout star with her new single “Fingers Crossed,” but what fans might not realize is that she’s a former American Idol contestant!

The 18-year-old Canadian singer-songwriter finished in the Top 20 of the show’s 18th season, which was the season that happened right at the beginning of the pandemic.

Lauren opened up in a new interview with the Spout podcast and talked about how life has changed since being on American Idol.

“It’s definitely changed just like with accessibility, like there’s lots more opportunity,” Lauren said. “Like even just having a manager, like your manager knows other singers, songwriters. Like boom, you guys could write together and you’re like, great. Like growing up in a small town on an island where nobody sings, it’s kind of like who do I write songs with, like, who? There’s nobody there that does that.”

“Where it’s like, for the last little bit to like, have just been like flying to Los Angeles and being in the middle of like, you know, music and being in the middle of people who do the same thing that I do and like sharing that with everybody,” Lauren continued. “The process is kind of still the same like you still go through the drama, cry about the drama, and then you know, articulate it into, you know, writing on a notebook, and then you walk in the studio and you’re like, cool.”
