Ukraine Misinformation Is Spreading on TikTok, New Twitter Thread Reveals What's Happening
Make sure to verify the news stories that you’re seeing on TikTok because some disinformation about the Ukraine crisis is spreading on the social media app.
A new thread on Twitter from NBC News reporter Ben Collins revealed what is happening right now on TikTok.

“This video of a parachuting soldier has 20 million views on TikTok. The top comment? ‘Bro is recording an invasion.’ But he isn’t. This video is from 2016,” Ben revealed with a screenshot of the video, which appears to have been removed from the app.
The video was posted by someone with the same username on Instagram back in April of 2016. People thought it showed a Russian paratrooper recording himself descending into Ukraine, but that is not the case. The TikTok video included no caption and users in the comments seemingly just assumed it was filmed in Ukraine, which helped the video go viral very quickly.
There are some authentic livestreams happening on TikTok, but some users are using doctored or dubbed footage of other places. There are some users using the videos as a way to seek monetary donations or gain followers on the app.
