'1883' EP Taylor Sheridan Says the 'Yellowstone' Spinoff Will Not Return for Season 2

Sad news for fans of 1883!

Executive producer Taylor Sheridan told Deadline on Monday (February 28) that the limited series, which is a spinoff of the hit show Yellowstone, would not be returning for a second season.

“I created this peek through time to show you this one specific journey,” he told the outlet. “I’m not someone who likes to tie everything up in a bow and explain how everyone lived happily ever after, or didn’t.”

“On to the next peek through the window,” he added, referencing the recently announced 1932 prequel spinoff, which will follow the Dutton family during the Great Depression. He said of the upcoming series, “Again, I don’t think of any of these as spinoffs, but rather as complete stories that have common roots. My goal with the next one would be that you could never have seen 1883 or Yellowstone, and still have a fully realized experience as a viewer.”

“[1883], for me, as a storyteller it feels close-ended,” Taylor continued. “I’m going to peek through the window of a different era and see what I see then.”

While it had previously been announced that 1883 was getting “more” episodes, Paramount+ did not explicitly say they’d ordered a second season during ViacomCBS’ Investors’ Day presentation in February.

In case you missed it, one of the stars of Yellowstone recently teased a possible romance between two characters in season 4!
