Renee Zellweger Reveals Her Thoughts About Wearing a Body Prosthetic To Become Pam in NBC's 'The Thing About Pam'

Renee Zellweger is opening up about the choice to wear a body prosthetic in her upcoming show, The Thing About Pam.

The 52-year-old actress stars as the title character in NBC’s series, which is based on the 2011 murder of Betsy Faria that resulted in her husband Russ’s conviction, although he insisted he didn’t kill her, and was later exonerated.

Speaking to ET, Renee said that her first reaction to seeing herself as Pam was “amazement, I was amazed. You might achieve a couple of things, but I had no expectation it was gonna be as remarkable as that.”

As for putting on the body prosthetic to become the prolific killer, she said that it wasn’t about wearing a “fat suit” but about being accurate in her portrayal.

“The idea is to be accurate, the idea is accuracy,” Renee said of why she chose to wear the sometimes-daunting prosthetic. “I think, especially in the case of telling this story, it was really important to as closely resemble Pam Hupp as we possibly could, because she seems so familiar, she seems like someone that we recognize, and we know.”

She added, “In order for you to better understand how possible it might be that people would project onto her who they are sure that she might be or what kind of person she might, it just seemed really important that we got as close to that as we could.”

The Thing About Pam will premiere on Tuesday, March 8 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
