Georgia Governor Candidate Stacey Abrams Had One Condition For Appearing on 'Star Trek: Discovery'

Stacey Abrams has gone from super Star Trek fan, to being part of the franchise, thanks to a cameo role on Star Trek: Discovery.

The politician and current candidate for governor of Georgia made her debut in the season four finale of the streaming show as the President of United Earth, which is ready to re-join the Federation of Planets again.

Stacey‘s cameo comes at the end of the season finale, where she arrives on the Federation’s starbase to make the proclamation.

In an interview with Variety, executive producer Michelle Paradise opened up about how they got Stacey involved.

“When the time came to start talking about the president of Earth, it seemed like, ‘Well, who better to represent that than her?’” she shared before explaining that after the idea was written down, she texted executive producer Alex Kurtzman to ask what he thought. “The number of exclamation marks that came back was just phenomenal.”

While Stacey was game to join the franchise, she did have one condition on her end – no spoilers!

“She was very specific about that,” Michelle added. “She wanted to be able to just watch it and enjoy when the show finally came out. So, yeah, we avoided all the spoilers.”

Michelle and star Sonequa Martin-Green also hinted that there would be more Stacey on the series in the future.

“We never wanted it to be a cameo — it was a proper role,” Michelle said. “There’s just something that made us think, ‘Well, of course she can do it.’ And she did. She just blew us away.”

Sonequa added, “She was just so comfortable with what she was doing, and knew exactly how to be and where to go and everything. I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised.”
