The bill prevents primary school teachers from discussing sexual orientation and gender identity in classroom discussion, with educators of all grade levels being barred from instruction on those topics that is has been deemed not “age appropriate or developmentally appropriate” for their students.

In a press conference ahead of signing the law, Gov. Ron DeSantis said telling kindergarten aged children that “they can be whatever they want to be” was “inappropriate.”

“It’s not something that’s appropriate for any place, but especially not in Florida,” he added.

“I don’t care what corporate media outlets say, I don’t care what Hollywood says, I don’t care what big corporations say,” he about the backlash surrounding the law. “Here I stand. I’m not backing down.”

His comments come after a number of actors voiced their criticism about the “Don’t Say Gay” bill. Disney’s CEO Bob Chapek recently spoke out against the law following weeks of scrutiny. Find out what he said.

One actress also discussed the bill during her acceptance speech at the 2022 Oscars last night.
