Jonathan Bailey Defends Lack of Sex Scenes in 'Bridgerton' Season Two

Jonathan Bailey is addressing some criticism surrounding season two of Bridgerton.

In a new interview, the 33-year-old actor, who plays Anthony Bridgerton, defended the Netflix show’s decision to scale back on sex scenes in the new season, and explained why he felt like it was the right choice considering the circumstances.

“What you lose in sex scenes you gain in a deeper human understanding, which hopefully enriches the world so that the future intimacy scenes won’t be the heavy feature, and [you] won’t have to lean on them as much,” Jonathan shared with USA Today. “It’s right to surprise an audience and keep them on their toes a bit.”

The new season of Bridgerton follows Anthony and Kate Sharma’s (played by Simone Ashley) love story.

For Jonathan, the story required that there be a decrease in graphic, steamy moments between the couple.

“It would have been wrong for Kate and Anthony to have got physical any sooner than they did,” Jonathan explained. “And I think the payoff is really earned.”

In another interview, Simone revealed what it was like filming sex scenes with Jonathan.
