Amy Schumer Thinks Will Smith's 'Upsetting' Oscars Slap Says 'So Much About Toxic Masculinity'

Amy Schumer is speaking out about the confrontation between Will Smith and Chris Rock at the Oscars.

During the award show last week, Chris was presenting an award and made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith. After she seemed upset by the joke, Will jumped on stage and slapped Chris in the face, then returned to his seat and shouted profanities at him.

Amy, who co-hosted the show with Regina Hall and Wanda Sykes, reflected on the incident during a set at the Mirage Theater in Las Vegas on Saturday (April 2).

“We’re gonna talk about everything and the Oscars, but I just want to talk about drinking because I have been drinking so much and I am severely hung over,” she said, per THR.

According to E! News, she also said: “I don’t even know what to say about the Oscars. I have no jokes about it. All I can say is that, I don’t know if you saw this, but Will Smith slapped Chris Rock. Did that cross your newsfeed?”

Amy said that she was “feeling herself” during the show and felt confident that she and her co-hosts were doing a good job, until Will got onstage.

“It was just a f—ing bummer. All I can say is that it was really sad, and I think it says so much about toxic masculinity. It was really upsetting,” she added.

Amy wrote in a since-deleted post that she was “triggered and traumatized” by what happened at the Oscars. See her full post here.
