Prince Andrew Is Having a Major Honorary Title Taken Away

Prince Andrew is being stripped of a major title.

The 62-year-old royal, who was accused of sexually assaulting an underage Virginia Giuffre before settling out of court, has had an honorary title taken away according to reports, via Deadline.

The Freedom of the City of York honor was rescinded after unanimous vote by the city’s council, which he’s had since 1987.

Counselors also called him to give up his Duke of York title.

“Having been stripped of his military roles and royal patronages by the Queen, we believe that it is right to remove all links that Prince Andrew still has with our great city,” said the council’s Daryl Smalley in a statement.

The BBC reports that the rank of duke can only be removed by an act of parliament, which hasn’t happened since 1917.
