Elon founded the infrastructure planning company in 2016, which became its own company in 2018, with the goal of creating a “Hyperloop” transport system, which are essentially underground tunnels for cars. Two short loops in Las Vegas and a test tunnel outside Los Angeles have been created already.

He’s also claimed that the government gave approval for him to build a loop between New York City and Washington D.C. that would reduce travel to 29 minutes.

“From a known physics standpoint, this is the fastest possible way of getting from one city center to another for distances less than ~2000 miles,” he claimed.
