Halsey is opening up more about how and why her record label won’t release one song of hers unless she goes viral on TikTok first.

After her story made headlines on Sunday (May 23), Halsey’s former label, Astralwerks made a statement about the situation.
Halsey then clarified that Astralwerks was not the one actually holding the song captive, and that it was Capitol Records instead.
“I’m not signed to astralwerks anymore! Astralwerks is the label that signed me, and then they upstreamed me to Capitol,” they said. “This quote came from the company who believed in me from the jump. Not the company I’m wrestling with right now ❤️”
They went on, explaining to fans how they just can’t drop the song when they like and it is all a marketing game.
“Talked to my label tonight after my tiktok tantrum. They said ‘wow the tiktok is going really strong!’ I was like ok cool so can I release my song now? They said we’ll see!’ 🙃 tell me again how I’m making this up,” one tweet read.
Halsey added the next day, “at this point i don’t know what to do because I told the truth about what’s happening and now I STILL don’t have a release date AND some of you think I’m lying about this whole fiasco. so I’m double fucked lol. if you have questions, I have answers. I have nothing to hide.”
When fans asked what they could do to help the situation, Halsey responded, “honestly idk the tiktok is already viral + I still don’t have a release date. I would say just do what you guys normally are amazing at doing when I announce a song (under better circumstances). They haven’t given me a date and I wanna release it ASAP so that’s really the hold up.”
Here’s what else Halsey said about the record label blocking the release:
100% I agree. I value the expertise and work of all the amazing people at my label. There are so many talented professionals there. But surely we can have an opinion on the entry point of consumption they’re trying to enforce?! A suggestion is great, an ultimatum? Not so much. https://t.co/N3NA52bOd0

it’s not about making the tiktoks I already make tiktoks! They are saying if they don’t reach some imaginary goalpost of views or virality than they won’t give me a release date at all. I’m not claiming to be oppressed! just saying that all not all marketing methods are universal https://t.co/TtblycBOi0

it’s about alev 🥲 part of the story of how we went from meeting and keeping touch randomly for years to realizing we were each others person all along. Right person wrong time type of song. https://t.co/QUplTSM3y9
