'Star Wars' Issues Statement About Racism Against 'Obi-Wan' Star Moses Ingram

The Star Wars franchise is speaking out against racism.

In a video posted to her Instagram Story, Obi-Wan Kenobi actress Moses Ingram revealed that she had been subjected to racist harassment online after the show’s premiere last week.

“There’s nothing anybody can do about this. There’s nothing anybody can do to stop this hate,” she said in the clip, noting that she had received “hundreds” of racist messages. “I question my purposes in even being here in front of you saying that this is happening. I don’t really know.”

The official Star Wars Twitter account issued a statement about the situation on Tuesday (May 31).

“We are proud to welcome Moses Ingram to the Star Wars family and excited for Reva’s story to unfold. If anyone intends to make her feel in any way unwelcome, we have only one thing to say: we resist,” the statement read.

“There are more than 20 million sentient species in the Star Wars galaxy, don’t choose to be a racist,” it concluded.

In the series, Moses plays a Jedi hunter named Reva who attempts to track down Ewan McGregor‘s Obi-Wan.

A few years ago, John Boyega opened up about his experience with racism from Star Wars fans. Find out what he said here.
