Just Jared: What sets Skura apart from other sponges on the market and what makes you excited about this product?

Eva Mendes: What sets Skura Style sponges apart is that there’s nothing else like this on the market. You’re average kitchen sponge is dirtier than your toilet! Our sponge has a revolutionary design that tells you when it’s time to replace.

JJ: How did you learn about Skura and what led to your new role as a co-owner and ambassador?

EM: During the pandemic, I was obsessively cleaning everything, from produce to countertops. I realize now that I was being a bit extra, but the benefit was that I went through a ton of sponges and eventually found Skura.

I loved how my Skura sponge never smelled and never held on to yesterday’s food. I loved that it was a “smart sponge” and told me when it was time to toss. I loved it was a sponge that did the thinking for me!

JJ: You took on a major new role during the pandemic. Have you been working from home like many others have been during this time? And if so, how has it been balancing work and family time while doing it all under the same roof?

EM: I started working with Skura during the pandemic and it was definitely a modern day collaboration. We worked only via zoom until I finally met my partners this May after almost two years of working together! Working from home is challenging in its own way. My kids don’t understand -or don’t care -when I’m in a zoom. I try to implement a rule that if my door is closed, they cannot come in unless it’s super important. But of course, that doesn’t happen.

So my new rule is, don’t come in while I’m on a zoom unless there’s blood! (Kidding but kind of not!)

JJ: Do you have any great cleaning hacks you could share?

EM: I have so many cleaning hacks from my mom. But the main one is having white vinegar and baking soda at all times. For literally almost everything! I also never waste a lemon! I use my lemon to clean steel pots, cheese graters and to clean my stainless-steel sink. when I’m done, I throw it in my garbage disposal. It cleans it and leaves it smelling so good.

JJ: Skura has already launched some more products in addition to sponges. Where do you see the company going from here?

EM: Of course I have a vision of where I want this company. But I keep those things to myself and my partners. Once I start talking publicly about where I want to take things, it dilutes it’s power. I’m crazy proud of being a partner in this innovative female owned business.

JJ: You recently posted on Instagram about seeing The Lion King in London. What are some of the other fun things you have done with your family while living there?

EM: We’ve been in London a few months. Since it’s been super rainy, I’ve taken advantage of the amazing culture here and we’ve been going to lots of shows on the West End. I’ve also been taking the kids to youth lead productions at the Unicorn Theatre.

But my highlight has definitely been taking the family to see the Royal Ballet perform Swan Lake at the Royal Opera House. It was a night I will never forget. It was pure magic. I cried like a baby. But like a quite baby. You know, I had to do the quiet cry. After all, I was at the ballet dahling…
