Kim Kardashian's Marilyn Monroe Met Gala Dress Appears To Have Permanent Damage In New Photos
Experts on the dress, including the original sketch designer Bob Mackie, voiced their concern about Kim wearing the dress for the event.
Bob drew the sketch for the original gown back in 1962 when he was working as an assistant to Jean Louis, and Marilyn then wore the dress when she famously sang “Happy Birthday” to President John F. Kennedy.
“I thought it was a big mistake,” Bob shared about the issue. “[Marilyn] was a goddess. A crazy goddess, but a goddess. She was just fabulous. Nobody photographs like that. And it was done for her. It was designed for her. Nobody else should be seen in that dress.”
Now, according to The Marilyn Monroe Collection, a fan had visited Ripley’s Believe It or Not and took a few up close photos of the dress since its return.
The dress now features rips and tears, crystals missing, and some are also hanging on by threads.
Ripley’s paid $4.8 million at auction for the dress to have it part of its collection.
Kim was originally denied use of the dress, before Ripley’s ultimately said yes.
