2 Florida Deputies Penalized for Publicizing News of Bob Saget's Death Before His Wife Kelly Rizzo Knew

Two deputies from Florida have been found guilty of publicizing the news of Bob Saget‘s death before his wife Kelly Rizzo was able to get information about her husband’s passing.

According to an internal investigation from the Orange County Sheriff’s office, published by ET on Monday (June 20), the details of the late comedian’s death were disseminated from employees to social media before an official release was given by the sheriff’s office’s public information officer.

The report states that deputies Emiliano Silva and Steven Reed violated the department’s dissemination of information directives by informing their friends and family members of Bob‘s death, which they then posted about on social media.

Deputy Silva reportedly texted his brother that the Full House star had died, at which point his brother tweeted: “RIP Bob Saget.”

The Sheriff’s communications department confirmed that the post came before Bob‘s family had been notified of his death, prior to the Sheriff’s Office making an official announcement and before the homicide unit or medical examiner had even arrived on the scene.

At the time, Kelly was unable to get any information from the hotel or police about her husband’s condition. She also started getting calls from the media to confirm whether or not he had passed away.

Deputy Silva claimed that he didn’t know about his brother’s post, adding that he he “had no ill intent, but should not have said anything.”

Deputy Reed was found guilty of confirming the news of Bob‘s death to a friend of his who had attended his comedy set the night of his passing.

The report suggests that he was not involved in the investigation and was unaware that Bob‘s family had not been informed, confessing that he did not receive authorization to release confidential information about the investigation publicly.

The pair have been suspended for 81 hours as a result.

Bob passed away back in January at the age of 65. His family’s attorney recently released a new statement about his death.
