Norway's Princess Ingrid Alexandra Wears Heirloom Tiara With Special Meaning In Official Royal Pics Released For Her 18th Birthday

Princess Ingrid Alexandra of Norway

While it doesn’t have an official name, the tiara has been passed down to Ingrid from the family of the late Princess Ragnhild, who was the last royal to wear the jewelry piece.

The tiara originally belonged to Ingrid’s namesake, her great-great-grandmother, Princess Ingeborg of Sweden. Ingeborg was given the tiara, made by jeweler Boucheron, over 120 years ago by her husband, Prince Carl.

The story is that Prince Carl had purchased the crown when he saw it in Paris for his wife, knowing that Ingeborg needed to have something lighter to wear on important occasions.

The tiara has interlocking diamond circles set in platinum, and later had added more diamond and pearl elements to it.

One of Ingeborg‘s daughters, Princess Astrid, said that “iIt means a great deal to me that the tiara has now been given to Princess Ingrid Alexandra.”

Princess Ingeborg last wore it at King Harald’s 21st birthday celebrations in 1958.

Princess Ingrid Alexandra is second in line to the throne of Norway, following her father, Crown Prince Haakon.
