R. Kelly Sentenced to 30 Years in Prison for Federal Sex Trafficking & Racketeering
R. Kelly faced a maximum sentence of life in prison, and a minimum of 25 years.
The sentencing from Judge Ann M. Donnelly comes after the star was found guilty back in September of 2021 on all nine counts after a six-week trial, determined by a jury of seven men and five women. He was placed on suicide watch after the conviction.
The jury found him guilty of being a serial sexual predator, as well as leading a group that recruited women and young girls for sex over the years.
R. Kelly was arrested back in July of 2019 and faced 11 counts of aggravated sexual abuse in a case involving four women. Three of the women were minors when the alleged abuse happened.
He had also been accused of knowingly infecting some accusers with a sexually transmitted disease, bribery, kidnapping, forced labor and producing child pornography. He previously denied any wrong doing in the accusations.
R. Kelly was previously acquitted of child pornography charges during a 2008 trial in Chicago.
