Kyle Richards Responds to Major Backlash for Laughing at Erika Jayne Insulting Garcelle Beauvais' Son

Kyle Richards has found herself in some major hot water with Real Housewives of Beverly Hills fans.

Earlier this week, Bravo released a few clips from the upcoming episode of the hit reality series where in one clip, Kyle is hanging out with husband Mauricio Umansky along with Dorit Kemsley and her husband Paul “PK” Kemsley.

While they’re hanging out, the group talks about attending Garcelle Beauvais‘ birthday party, where a drunk Erika Jayne first hits on Garcelle‘s eldest son Oliver Sanders, 31, before insulting her younger son Jax Nilon, 14, when he goes to get a vase of flowers from a table in front of Erika.

“Get the f–k out of here. Get the f–k out of here,” Erika says to Jax. “Get the f–k out of here before you get in trouble.”

Dorit was sitting at the table when this encounter happened, and said in a confessional, “I know Erika’s drunk and I know she’s joking around. But that’s Garcelle’s son, he’s 14-years-old. I feel sick to my stomach.”

However, Dorit, Kyle, Mauricio, and PK then all laughed about the tense moment between Erika and Jax, with Mauricio calling it “great.”

“It’s not funny, but it is funny,” Kyle said before discussing it more in a confessional, adding, “The Erika that we’ve known all these years was holding a lot in, so seeing this side of her — more open and honest — even if she’s not always showing her best side, at least it’s genuine.”

Once the clips went viral, many fans called out Kyle, Dorit, and their husbands for laughing at Erika cursing at Jax.

The Queens of Bravo Instagram account shared the clip and Kyle took to the comments to respond, writing, “I was laughing about a friend’s drunken, ridiculous behavior. NOT about disrespecting someone’s child. I think you know me better than that by now. I wasn’t even there to see this and only heard about Erika and what she had said later.”

On Tuesday (July 5), Kyle took to her Instagram Story to further defend herself in the situation.

“Onto the clip where Mauricio, Pk, Dorit & I are discussing Erika’s behavior at Garcelle’s party. I had not seen what Erika said to Jax in person but was told about it the following day along with some funny moments as well,” Kyle wrote. “When I said it’s not funny, but it’s funny, I meant Erika being drunk was funny, but now what she said to Jax was not.”

She continued, “I hope you know me well enough by now to know I certainly do no condone speaking to children like that. We are all parents and certainly wouldn’t want anyone speaking to any of our children like that.”

“Until Mexico we had never seen Erika drink like that. So this was new behavior we were seeing,” Kyle explained. “I think while focusing on that the more important issue was being minimalized.”

Kyle concluded, “Anyway, I never post things like this but I felt absolutely terrible watching these clips so I wanted to share with you.”

While Dorit and Erika have stayed quiet on the situation on social media, Garcelle did comment on the clip of Kyle, Dorit, Mauricio, and PK laughing, tweeting, “Nope never saw this scene until now😡”

New episodes of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills air on Wednesdays at 8pm ET on Bravo.
