James Gunn Explains Why the Trailer for 'Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3' Hasn't Been Released Online

James Gunn is giving fans an update about the trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3.

On Sunday (July 24), the 55-year-old director took to Twitter to explain why the trailer for the new movie hadn’t been released online yet, despite having debuted at Comic-Con 2022 over the weekend.

Replying to one fan expressing frustration about Marvel’s decision not to share the trailer, James wrote: “I wish you could have [seen it] too. But it’s not just Marvel, it’s also me. Although I love the teaser, some VFX aren’t where I’d want them to be for repeated views and close inspection — remember we didn’t wrap long ago — so you’ll have to wait just a beat! Sorry!”

According to Variety, the first look at Vol. 3 features Gamora unable to remember her fellow Guardian crew members. It also teases Rocket’s origin story, as well as an all-gold Adam Warlock, portrayed by Will Poulter.

“This is the end of that story,” James told fans at the event. “I’m sorry. Some stories have an end. It doesn’t mean everybody dies.”

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to hit theaters on May 5, 2023.

A new cast member was announced last month. Find out who!
