Mandy Moore Explains Why She Needs to Have an Unmedicated Birth

Mandy Moore is opening up about why she’s having an unmedicated birth when she welcomes her second child into the world this fall.

The 38-year-old This Is Us actress and her husband Taylor Goldsmith are expecting their second baby boy.

Mandy opened up about a rare medical disorder that is preventing her from having an epidural during childbirth.

During her interview with Today Parents, Mandy discussed having an autoimmune disorder called immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP).

“My platelets are too low for an epidural. It was awful. But I can do it one more time. I can climb that mountain again,” Mandy said. “I wish medication was an option — just the idea of it being on the table is so nice. But we’ll just push forth like we did last time.”

Mandy also welcomed her 17-month-old son Gus without an epidural.

Mandy shared an update on her pregnancy this week. She said, “I am fine. I just have to continue to get my blood checked — my platelet levels checked — throughout pregnancy. They’re low, but they’ve always been low. But I’m all good. Everything’s good.”

Earlier this month, Mandy made the decision to cancel the remainder of her summer tour and she opened up about why she was afraid to continue touring while pregnant.
