Madonna Reveals The Outfit Mishap That Almost Ruined Her Career - Watch!

Madonna almost had a very short career.

While appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the 63-year-old entertainer recalled a performance at an awards show back in the ’80s that almost ruined her career.

During her interview, Madonna revealed she was told her career was over after a wardrobe mishap at her first MTV VMAs back in 1984 where she performed “Like a Virgin.”

“I don’t know why they chose ‘Like a Virgin’ because I thought it was quite controversial,” Madonna admitted. “It turned out that the controversial thing wasn’t the song itself but my performance at the MTV Awards, the first MTV Awards.”

“I walked down these very steep stairs…and I got to the bottom, and started dancing around, and my white stiletto pumps fell off,” Madonna explained, adding that this mishap caused her dress to flip up and expose her butt when she went bent over to grab them.

“Those were the days when you shouldn’t show your butt to have a career,” Madonna joked. “Now it’s the opposite… I didn’t even know my butt was showing!”

Once she walked off stage after the performance, Madonna recalled her manager telling her backstage that her “career was over with.”
